Heathrow is the busiest airport in the United Kingdom, as well as the busiest airport in Europe by passenger traffic, and sixth busiest airport in the world by total passenger traffic. In 2015, it handled a record 75 million passengers, a 2.2 percent increase from 2014.
Heathrow is implementing major changes at the airport which will re-configure the terminals to support passenger growth to 90-100 million. With the successful completion of T2 Phase 1, the airport has been planning the next phase of the terminal’s development.
To undertake an in-depth analysis of the space requirements for the second phase of Terminal 2’s redevelopment as well evaluate potential planning options developed by the design team.
WHAT WE DID
- In-depth evaluation of forecast passenger composition to understand how changes in the airline mix and passenger profiles would impact the spending potential and associated demand for space in the new terminal
- Undertook a detailed analysis of existing commercial performance at the individual unit level to determine opportunities for improved future performance in the context of both local and global benchmarking
- Developed a bespoke space supportable and revenue model to determine the optimum quantum of commercial space and forecast sales and income projections
- Evaluated a number of design options produced by the retail architects in terms of their commercial potential, as well as their impact on passenger satisfaction
Pragma’s work enabled Heathrow Airport and the design team to determine the optimum space requirements for the terminal in the context of the passenger profiles and forecast traffic.
